Actor 'Leonardo DiCaprio' |
Short films may not have known actors; some short films even have untrained actors for example Chris Anderson (right) who played Jon Smith in sold would only be known to a very small minority of people. One of the reasons for this is the budgets given to short films and the budget given to a short film is very different. Feature length films are given a greater budget and are able to employ better actors, and a big difference is they can buy better equipment and better sets, therefore the quality of the feature length films are usually better, for example in the film Blood Diamond, the director was able to get Leonardo DiCaprio (left), an a-list actor to act in his film.
There is also a big difference in themes and content, short films seem to challenge themes more whereas feature length films usually go with the safer themes which they know the public would like. One reason for this is that feature length films are normally profit orientated, and so would need to make money, but short films would not make as much money, and do not need to please the public as much.

Another difference is the way that they are distributed, feature length films, if popular would first be shown in the cinema and have millions of people watching it, or go straight to DVD and be sold in shops, one example being Lion King 1 and a half which instead of being shown in cinemas was put on VHS straight away and sold in shops , short films on the other hand are distributed on the internet from sites such as ‘BBC and Youtube’ or sometimes shown on late night Television, and these are not watched as much by the public.
